MAKEUP

• Go through magazines to help you decide how you want your wedding makeup to look before you meet with a makeup artist or purchase any cosmetics. You should know that wedding makeup is applied a little differently for photography and that it needs to last all day!
• One of the biggest mistakes I see is the wrong application of makeup. Your wedding day is no time to experiment with cosmetics! Skillfully applied makeup could make your photographs look like you spent a fortune on them.Consider using a professional make-up artist who knows how to bring out your natural beauty for the camera, too. They are trained to understand camera lighting and angles, and how to accentuate your best features and minimize others. However, always do a “test run” before the wedding day!
• As a make-up artist, my biggest tip to my brides is to play!! This is the time to go and get expert advice on colors, color placement and depth of color. Submitted by: Make-up by Heather Wilson, Phoenix, AZ . 602-750-2379. www.makeupbyheatherwilson.com.
• Make-up application on your wedding day should start with little to no sunscreen on. Sunscreen flashes white in photos and we don't want you looking like a ghost! You then want to play up the eyes. Make them a little more dramatic than normal. False eyelashes definitely help! Remember that blending is the key to a smooth look. You will also need more blush than normal because it fades away when you go outside and from the flash of the camera. • On your wedding day you will be kissing, not only your new spouse, but also friends and family. Keep this in mind when choosing lipcolor. You may want to consider a long wear "kiss proof" product. There are several companies that make them and they come in all price ranges. MAC and CoverGirl are two brands that I have had very good results with. The lipcolor is very matte and can be dry, but the top coat that comes with it takes care of that and gives you a gorgeous finish in photos. You will want to discuss colors with your makeup artist, but trying a few colors on your own is a good idea. Go a shade or 2 darker than you normally wear and take snapshots if you can. Color can photograph very differently and you will want to feel confident in all of your makeup. This simple tip can allow you to focus on the important details of your big day - not your lipstick. • Your foundation should blend in with your natural skin tone. Once you have applied the foundation, you may want to check the color in the sunlight because other types of lighting may affect appearances. You will know that you have a good match with your skin color if the foundation on your jaw line matches your neck.
• If you hesitate to do your own make-up the day of the wedding, don't forget to call a professional to take away the stress for you on your special day. A trial is a MUST so that you can try a few different looks and so you can see what pictures will look like, before the wedding day! Again – it is one less thing for you to have to worry about that morning. Smile, Drink lots of water, and over all, Have FUN! • Your wedding is an emotional day, so everything you put on your face (especially mascara) should be waterproof and smudge-proof. It is important to have a fresh tube of mascara on your wedding day because older mascara has a tendency to clump.
• To get your makeup to last throughout the busy day and look good in photos, it is important to use powder. Not only will powder "set" the makeup giving it a longer lasting effect, but it also helps in reducing unwanted shine. You may want to reapply powder throughout the day.
• Concealer brightens up your face and lifts your look in pictures. Apply Creamy Concealer Kit from Bobbi Brown on dark circles using the Concealer Brush. Never apply concealer on eyelids below the browbone; it will cause eye makeup to smear and crease.
• Define eyes with black or brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner by Bobbi Brown on upper lashline with the Ultra Fine Eye Liner Brush. Match with a black or brown eye shadow along lower lashline with a slightly damp eye liner brush. I highly recommend this eyeliner. It is a little pot of gold! It will surely last throughout the day.
• Make sure that your makeup foundation is the correct color. If you have been tanning or have lost a tan since you purchased your foundation you will need to have it adjusted.
• Give some thought to your eyebrows. Properly groomed and shaped brows help enhance and add expression to the face and are without doubt an essential step to completing any wedding makeup application. Have the wedding makeup artist groom them at your preview or lesson. At the very least, tweeze the strays around the brows. You want your eyes to "open up". Don't wait until the wedding day to shape them the very first time.
• On your wedding day you will be photographed hundreds of times – perhaps more than any other day in your life. So your makeup will have to make you look beautiful in person as well as in photographs. Great makeup will do both. You should not look too made up, but, more than likely, you will need to wear more than you might be accustomed – especially if you are the “natural” type. Remember, you want to ENHANCE your features with make-up… not cover them up!
